Vibhudutta Awasthi, Ph.D.
Professor and Chair

Dr. Vibhudutta Awasthi leads a highly productive research program at the intersection of molecular imaging and therapeutic innovation. His recent work centers on developing PET imaging agents for cardiac injury and pulmonary fibrosis, most notably F-18-fluorodeoxyglucarate for diagnosing myocardial infarction and myocarditis, supported by the NIH-NHLBI. He has advanced cardiotropic liposomal drug delivery systems for targeted atorvastatin therapy in infarcted myocardium, backed by the National Science Foundation. Parallel investigations in Dr. Awasthi’s lab explore novel pharmacotherapies for metabolic liver disease, stroke, and hemorrhagic shock. His multidisciplinary approach consistently bridges radiopharmaceutical chemistry, nanomedicine, and preclinical animal modeling to accelerate translational discoveries toward clinical applications.
