Cottrell lab

The Cottrell Laboratory harnesses translational clinical pharmacology approaches to advance innovative strategies for the prevention, treatment, and eventually cure of HIV. To this end, our research coalesces analytical chemistry, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pharmacometrics to characterize how drugs distribute throughout the body and how these distributional patterns influence therapeutic efficacy.

Our Work

A major focus of the laboratory is supporting the development and optimization of long-acting antiretroviral therapies and multipurpose prevention technologies, including injectable and implantable drug delivery systems that improve adherence and expand access to care. Finally, we also develop innovative biomarkers and analytical methods to quantify drug adherence and exposure then apply these tools to empirically optimize dosing strategies across diverse populations. We integrate preclinical research, clinical investigation, and quantitative modeling to accelerate the development of innovative medical technologies that enable precision medicine and improve global health.
