Medicinal Chemistry

Medicinal chemistry encompasses biochemistry as well as synthetic and natural products chemistry. Ongoing research programs include investigations of pathogenic microorganisms and synthesis of novel radiopharmaceuticals.

Medicinal chemistry involves the synthesis, identification, purification, structural determination, and analysis of structure-activity relationships of drugs and other medicinally active products. Altered gene expression in disease and use of genomic information for drug design are also areas of interest in medicinal chemistry. Research projects of the current faculty include studies on infectious diseases, photodynamic therapy, and cancer.
