Student Organizations

Student organizations are an integral part of the daily life here at the OU College of Pharmacy. Over 75 percent of first-year students are involved in at least one organization. With many different organizations, pharmacy students have the opportunity to become involved, not only in their college, but their community as well. We believe that participation in these student organizations promote leadership, fellowship, and academic success.

Pharmacy student organizations must be officially recognized by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy in order to qualify for student activity fee funds. Formal recognition requires that the organization meets the following requirements:

  • Has goals and activities consistent with those of the College;
  • Maintains its funds in a University account;
  • Maintains a copy of the national and local constitution and by-laws on file in the Dean’s Office and adheres to these in all activities; and
  • Adherence to Regents', University, and College policy regarding student organizations.

Pharmacy Student Professional Fraternities

  • Kappa Psi Fraternity - Gamma Omicron Chapter

    Mission Statement: Kappa Psi was founded in 1879 in New Haven, Conn. on the principles of industry, sobriety, fellowship, and high ideals. It is the oldest and largest pharmaceutical fraternity in the world. The Gamma Omicron chapter was founded in 1923 and has continued these goals.

    Purpose: There are several statements of purpose for this chapter:

    • To conduct a professional fraternal organization for the mutual benefit of its members;
    • To develop industry, sobriety, and fellowship;
    • To foster high ideals, scholarship, and pharmaceutical research;
    • To support all projects which will advance the profession of pharmacy and to actively participate in them; and
    • To inspire in its members a deep and lasting pride in their fraternity and in the profession of pharmacy.

  • Phi Delta Chi - Rho Chapter

    Mission Statement: Phi Delta Chi is a professional pharmacy fraternity whose objective is to advance the science of pharmacy and its allied interests; and to aim to foster and promote fraternal spirit among its members.

    Purpose: Our organization strives to help each brother excel in pharmacy through brotherhood, scholarship, professionalism, community service, and social activities. Phi Delta Chi is a national organization, with many brothers regionally and across the nation. We bring together brothers within our own chapter as well as allow many opportunities to meet brothers from other chapters. We are intentional in creating a large resource network that will be available not only during pharmacy school, but throughout our careers.

    Events: We host multiple fundraisers for St. Jude's and have social events every month for our brothers. We partner with Kappa Psi to organize the Dr. & Dr. of Pharmacy Pageant in the Spring semester (the proceeds of which go to the American Heart Association).

  • Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Society - Alpha Epsilon Chapter

    Mission Statement: Phi Lambda Sigma is a pharmacy leadership society for 2nd-4th year students. PLS aims to acknowledge leadership achievement, ensure the continuing availability of student and practitioner leaders, and enhance the talent, skill, and effectiveness of leaders in the pharmacy profession.

    Purpose: The purpose of this chapter is to (P2 and P3 students are invited to apply each fall. Admission to PLS is based on leadership involvement):

    • Ensure the continuing availability of student and practitioner leaders for the profession of pharmacy;
    • Acknowledge leadership achievement and award membership to leaders recommended by the Society; and
    • Enhance the talent, skill, and effectiveness of leaders for the profession of pharmacy.

    Events: Each year, we participate in philanthropy events such as City Rescue Mission and look forward to our college's Big Event community service project in the spring semester.

    Dues: New members ($110); Current members ($30).

  • Pharmacy Student Executive Council

    Mission Statement: Pharmacy Student Council coordinates student participation in college activities, acts as a liaison between the health campus and the College of Pharmacy, provides pharmacy student representation in university activities, and keeps students up-to-date on upcoming events.

    Purpose: PSC is the governing student body of the College of Pharmacy and is composed of representatives elected from each recognized student organization, as well as the president of each campus pharmacy class.

    Events: PSC is made up of subcommittees that provide various outlets for our college. RX-A-Wish, a silent auction for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, is one of our biggest annual events. We also have an intramurals coordinator, a social chair, and a Pharmacy Month chair who facilitates different meetings throughout the month of October to promote the pharmacy profession.

  • OUHSC Student Government Association

    Mission Statement:

    The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Student Government Association (SGA) serves as the governing body for OUHSC students and includes the SGA Executive Board, SGA Executive Council, and SGA Senate.

    Purpose: SGA Senate is comprised of elected senators from all seven colleges on the HSC campus. It is then divided up into four committees: Campus Development, Interdisciplinary, Community Outreach, and Student Services. Each committee works throughout the year on projects developed based on feedback from the students and the rest of the student government members.

    Upcoming Events: In recent years, we have organized the All College Party benefiting OU Children's Hospital Foundation and the MEET@THEWALK social event; worked with campus leaders on campus safety and beautification projects; and developed a guide of the OKC area for students from out-of-state or from another country.

  • Rho Chi Academic Honor Society - Gamma Chapter

    Mission Statement: The Rho Chi Society is a pharmacy academic honor society. Membership is based on academic performance, personal qualities, election by current members, and approval by the Dean.

    Purpose: The purpose of the organization is to give recognition to intellectual leaders in the profession of pharmacy, as well as encourage its members to promote the highest ideals in pharmacy.

    Events: Service events include volunteering at City Rescue Mission in the Fall semester and Millwood Elementary in the Spring semester.

Pharmacy Student Professional Organizations

  • APhA-ASP

    Mission Statement: The APhA-ASP chapter is a collective voice of student pharmacists preparing to become professionals that focus on providing opportunities for professional growth, improving patient care, and further advancing the future of pharmacy.

    Purpose: Members find their passion for the profession of pharmacy through various patient care projects throughout the year, such as flu shot clinics and our annual heart Healthy Cook-Off event.

    Events: The APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition is slated every Spring semester, when both attending pharmacists and students discuss policy and learn new/upcoming practices and ideas.

  • National Community Pharmacists Association

    Mission Statement: Our mission is to encourage, foster, and recognize an interest in community pharmacy ownership and entrepreneurship among the future leaders of their profession.

    Purpose: The purpose of the Student Chapter is to provide a forum for pharmacy students to learn about and support the mission and objectives of NCPA, including the many career opportunities available in independent pharmacy practice through an affiliation with NCPA.

    Events: Events include monthly general meetings, OPhA Legislative Day and the annual NCPA conference.

  • American Society of Consultant Pharmacists

    Mission Statement: The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) is the international professional association that provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources to advance the practice of Senior Care Pharmacy.

    Purpose: Our organization offers students opportunities to conduct medication reviews with seniors around the metro area and advise them about opportunities to improve their medication therapy regimen on the approval of their primary care physician.

    Events: The organization works to enhance awareness of Alzheimer's annually by bringing together students from the college, along with students from the other colleges at the OU Health Sciences Center, to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's in downtown Oklahoma City. We also conduct medication reviews with senior adults at events at least twice a semester.

  • Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International

    Mission Statement: The Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI) is a worldwide ministry of individuals working in all areas of pharmaceutical service and practice. Our mission is to serve Christ and the world through pharmacy.

    Purpose:

    • Provide fellowship among like-minded professionals;
    • Challenge and promote spiritual growth among members;
    • Encourage the advancement of knowledge and ethics in the practice of pharmacy;
    • Lend support and opportunity for service in both home and foreign missions; and
    • Promote evangelism and the integration of faith into practice

    Events: The chapter meets monthly for bible study and fellowship at the college.

  • Oklahoma Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists - sOSHP

    Mission Statement: The mission of OSHP is to serve its members and to provide leadership and representation before legislative, regulatory, and other bodies which will assist pharmacists in organized health care settings in Oklahoma to provide pharmaceutical care.

    Purpose: sOSHP is affiliated with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Oklahoma Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (OSHP). Student members have the opportunity to participate in activities related to institutional and systems-related pharmacy issues.

    Events: We volunteer our time at nearby health clinics, as well as in a community middle school to teach students about healthcare, immunizations, and the pharmacy profession.

    Dues: $50.00.

  • Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group

    Mission Statement: The Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG) is an international, nonprofit, professional association representing the interests of pediatric pharmacists and their patients. We are dedicated to improving medication therapy in children.

    Purpose: The purpose of PPAG is to promote pediatric pharmacy advocacy and interest at the college. We promote medication safety awareness for the pediatric population through the education of future pharmacists, parents, and children. We also have a strong focus on volunteering in the pediatric community.

  • Student National Pharmaceutical Association

    Mission Statement: SNPhA is the student affiliate of the National Pharmaceutical Association. Our mission is to promote the pharmacy profession and to serve the underserved. We offer student members the opportunity to develop leadership and professional skills while working within communities to educate on better health practices and to increase awareness and understanding of various disease states.

    Purpose: The purpose of SNPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute programs geared toward the improvement of the health, educational, and social environment of minority communities.

    At our chapter, we participate in six initiatives to improve the health of Oklahomans. These initiatives include: Remember the Ribbon, Power to End Stroke, Legislative, Chronic Kidney Diease, Operation Immunization, and Diabetes.

    Our chapter won the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center's Outstanding Registered Student Organization Award in 2016.
