List of current grants


My research focuses on health economics and outcomes research using mixed methodologies. Research interests primarily involve understanding health behaviors among underserved, minority groups and the use of patient-reported outcomes to capture disease burden in patients with rare diseases, cancer, and other disease conditions. Additional research interests include psychometrics (instrument development and validation) and examining quality of life through theoretical frameworks and large-scale retrospective database analyses.

    1. Role: Director. Scope: University. Description: As the Director of Cultural Awareness and Communication at the TSET Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC), my goal is to promote and foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture. Collaborating closely with leadership and employees, I am responsible for developing and implementing strategies that enhance awareness and understanding of cultural differences, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals involved. This includes facilitating cultural awareness/competency programs, formulating policies and practices promoting diversity and inclusion, and organizing events and initiatives celebrating different cultures and backgrounds. In addition, I support faculty hiring efforts and mentor underrepresented minorities from Rose State College and Langston University, an HBCU in Oklahoma, in a translational research program to provide opportunities and support for their professional growth. Together, these efforts contribute to a positive and impactful environment that benefits individuals' well-being and health outcomes within the HPRC and the University.     2. Role: Others. Scope: University. Description: In my role as an affiliate faculty member of the Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) since 2018 and a member of the Cancer Research Professional Education & Training at the SCC since January 2023, I have actively contributed to cancer research education. This involvement includes participating in educational initiatives, providing expertise, and collaborating with other professionals to enhance the overall training and educational programs offered by the SCC.     3. Role: Others. Scope: University. Description: As a member of the African American Cancer Research Community Advisory Board (AACRCAB), I actively contribute to shaping the direction and impact of cancer research within the African American community. My role involves providing valuable insights, perspectives, and feedback on research initiatives, ensuring that they are culturally sensitive, relevant, and address the unique needs and challenges faced by African Americans in the realm of cancer. I collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and community members to foster effective communication, community engagement, and the translation of research findings into practical interventions. By participating in the AACRCAB, I play a crucial part in advancing equitable and inclusive cancer research efforts that aim to reduce disparities and improve health outcomes among African Americans. Date: 2020.

                                                

    4. Role: Others. Scope: University. Description: In 2018, I assumed the role of Associate Director of the Qualitative Outcomes Evaluation, Tracking, and Evaluation Core within the Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources (OSCTR). As part of my responsibilities, I oversee the monitoring and evaluation of the program's activities, which includes assessing goals and tracking the progress of trainees, scholars, mentors, pilot projects, and research teams. Additionally, I am responsible for monitoring budget implementation and resource sharing. To ensure a comprehensive evaluation, we employ a mixed-methods approach utilizing surveys, interviews, focus groups, data analysis, and network evaluation. We continuously strive to improve the program's effectiveness and impact by refining our evaluation methods. Date: 2018.

                                                

    5. Role: Others. Scope: University. Description: As a member of the OUHSC African American Student Association’s (AASA) MLK Speaker Selection Committee, I played a crucial role in contributing ideas to enhance the HSC MLK Program. This program, organized by AASA, has become a prominent event celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., attracting over 200 attendees annually. My involvement focused on soliciting additional sponsorship, promoting, advertising the event, and providing valuable insights to ensure the continued success and impact of the MLK Program. Past speakers have included notable figures like Dr. Chika Stacy Oriuwa, Rev. Cece Jones-Davis, Dr. Sampson Davis, and others. My expertise and contributions contributed to the program's growth and significance within the community. Date: 2023.
