Toxicology
History

The Oklahoma Center for Toxicology was created by The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center to enhance research, training, and service in the field of Toxicology within the State of Oklahoma. The center brings together researchers from across the State and serves as a catalyst in the development of multidisciplinary research projects. Center members retain primary academic appointments in such departments as biochemistry, chemistry, environmental and occupational health, medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutics, medicine, occupational medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, nutritional sciences, and urology. In addition to fostering intellectual ties that may enhance research collaborations, the center also supports an active seminar program and works to develop core facilities in support of research.

As scientists studying research problems that have a clear application to Toxicology Researchpublic health, toxicologists within the center provide the residents of Oklahoma and the region with impartial, professional expertise in critical areas relating to environmental health and medical therapeutics. The center maintains ties with numerous related facilities on the Health Sciences campus ranging from the various colleges located there to the Oklahoma Poison Control Center, the State of Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office, and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Together, these Institutions represent a tremendous resource for solving problems in Toxicology.
