Linda M. Strand, Pharm.D.,Ph.D., a leading expert in the areas of pharmaceutical care and practice of pharmaceutical care. The development of the concept of pharmaceutical care by Dr. Strand is a culmination of many years of education, practice and research. In developing this concept, Dr. Strand collaborated with Dr. Doug Helper and in 1997 both were named as co-recipients of the American Pharmacists Association's Remington Medal, the highest award offered in the profession of Pharmacy. Dr. Strand, a professor of pharmacy practice at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, Minneapolis, MN, has published over thirty-five research publications in refereed journals as well as twelve book chapters and monographs. Dr. Strand has been very active in research and has received substantial extramural grant support for her work. She has been honored internationally as well as nationally for her research work.

"Pharmaceutical Care Practice: Future or Fantasy?"
"In recent years, emphasis in the profession of pharmacy has been placed on pharmaceutical care. Dr. Strand is well known for developing the concept of pharmaceutical care and more recently, the practice of pharmaceutical care.

In this presentation, Dr. Strand will discuss the practice of pharmaceutical care and necessity for pharmacy practitioners to take responsibility for the patient's drug- related needs. She will also discuss the essential elements in building a solid pharmaceutical care practice as well as what today's students must do in order to be competent to practice.

Dr. Strand will discuss the practice of pharmacy as it is perceived today and what we can expect in the future."
