
H. Joseph Schutte is a 1956 graduate of The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. After graduation, he became employed as a representative for Eli Lilly and Company and subsequently became an independent pharmacist and owner of Jeffersontown Pharmacy and Pharmacare, Inc. Joe is currently Chairman and CEO of GeriMed Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky. During his long and extremely successful career, Joe has remained active in several pharmacy organizations, including the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA, formerly the National Association of Retail Druggists), the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), the Kentucky Pharmacists Association, and the Jefferson County Academy of Pharmacy. He has served as President and Chairman of the Board of the Jefferson County Academy of Pharmacy and progressed through several offices of the NCPA beginning with the 4th Vice-President position in 1975. Joe became President of the NCPA in 1986. He has also served the organization as Treasurer, Chairman of the Executive Committee, member of the Credentials Committee, and Trustee of the NCPA Foundation. As a member of the Kentucky Pharmacists Association, Joe has served on several committees, including those for Legislative Affairs, Budget and Finance, and Economic Affairs. He has also been a member and President of the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy as well as the Kentucky Certificate of Need and Licensor Board and the National Council for Prescription Drugs Program. Mr. Schutte has been asked by several organizations to provide his expertise as a consultant. As examples, he has been on the Lederle Laboratory Consulting Panel and the Upjohn Consulting Panel. At the community level, Joe has served as President of the Rotary Club and been a member of the Veterans Drug Club and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. Mr. Schutte is a recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia and was selected as the 1971 Kentucky Pharmacist of the Year, the 1986 Outstanding Kentuckian Award from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, and the 1995 Entrepreneur of the Year in Kentucky and Southern Indiana Award.
