"The entrepreneurial spirit of the health care professional/small business owner is evident the the ranks of independent community pharmacy. They represent 40% of all the retail pharmacies nationwide and 57% in Oklahoma. Last year, an average of 3.5 new independent community pharmacies a day opened for business---more than 1,260 in all. Why? Owning empowers pharmacists to practice what they learned in pharmacy school and beyond---providing patient-centric services such as compound, medication therapy management, and whatever other innovations the pharmacist-entrepreneur determines will best serve his or her community. Entrepreneurship offers today's pharmacists financial rewards, management flexibility, and control over their own destiny."
