Doug grew up in Caney, KS and Bartlesville, OK, graduating with a B.S. in Pharmacy degree in 1992. As a student, at the University of Oklahoma, he was on the staff of the student newspaper, writing a weekly editorial column for The Oklahoma Daily. As a pharmacy student, he was honored as the Outstanding Pharmacy Administration student with the McNeil Award. He was very active in the Academy of Students of Pharmacy (ASP), both locally and on a national level where he was named Vice-Chair of the ASP Standing Committee on Publications.

Following graduation Doug practiced pharmacy in Shawnee where he also served as a Long Term Care Facility Pharmacy Consultant. He taped public service announcements for Oklahoma City and Shawnee radio stations in conjunction with Pharmacy Week in 1992 and 1995. After receiving his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Oklahoma City University in 1994, he joined his father's pharmacy in Bartlesville where he assisted in the development of a home infusion business as well as developing health and wellness fairs for H & G Pharmacy. In this capacity he had the opportunity to speak to local community groups about various pharmacy topics.

Doug joined the staff of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) in 1996, first as Assistant Director of Management Services and Student Affairs. He quickly rose to the position of Associate Director of Management Services and Student and Professional Affairs. Currently, Doug is Vice President of Professional and Practice Affairs. Since joining NCPA, he has made presentations to more than 2,500 pharmacy students, and has made numerous presentations supporting independent community pharmacy to state and national pharmacy groups. He has authored and edited the NCPA student newsletter, The New Independent, and currently serves as NCPA Foundation Secretary where he coordinates Foundation Research Grants, Presidential Scholarships, and their Loan Program to assist research and scholarship to promote independent community pharmacy and students interested in community pharmacy.

For NCPA's video offerings to pharmacies, Doug researched, wrote, and filmed for NPTV's (now PharmaSeeTV) "Clinical Update" series and "Ask Your Family Pharmacist." He coordinates the NCPA Management Certificate Program and the NCPA Ownership Training Workshop. Additionally, he is the coordinator for the Independent Pharmacy Matching Service and the Community Pharmacy Ownership Program. Doug has been involved in both the NCPA/NIPCO Diabetes Care Program and the NCPA Certificate Program in Diabetes Care and recently passed the NABP Certificate Program in that area. He also co-edited the NCPA/NACDS Community Pharmacy Residency Guidelines. He serves as NCPA Liaison to U.S.P., the National Council for Patient Information and Education (NCPIE), and the Institute for the Advancement of Community Pharmacy.
