Kim graduated from Ringling High School and attended The University of Oklahoma. He received the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree in 1964 and the Master of Science degree in 1968. Licensed in Oklahoma and Arkansas, Kim served as director of pharmacy at St Edwards Mercy Hospital in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma. Currently, he is a Poison Specialist pharmacist at the Oklahoma Poison Control Center and Clinical Instructor at The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy.

Kim is a long-time member of the Oklahoma Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OSHP) and served the organization in various capacities, including President. He holds membership in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the Oklahoma Pharmacy Heritage Foundation, The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and the Cleveland County Pharmacists Association.

Kim has contributed many articles to professional and literary publications. As examples, he originated and edited the Society's newsletter "The Lantern" and contributed as well a hospital pharmacy column for the “Oklahoma Pharmacist.” He continues to write articles related to his activities as Poison Specialist, namely poison prevention.

Kim received the Squibb Leadership award in 1970 and again in 1979 and the Geigy award in 1979. He has also served on the Hospital Pharmacy Advisory Board for "Drug Topics" and the editorial board of the “Journal of Irreproducible Results.”

Kim and his wife Jymmie have two sons, David and Michael, and one granddaughter, Mikella.
