Description

The purpose of this session is to provide participants with strategies for conducting meaningful self and peer evaluations. The overall goal of the session is to help participants evaluate the strategies they currently use and explore frameworks for evaluating your own, peer and multiple instructor teaching endeavors. The emphasis of the session is on reviewing two specific strategies/techniques for conducting the evaluations.

Objectives:

  • Describe current strategies for conducting self and peer evaluation
  • List the seven principles of effective education
  • Explain teaching squares and their relationship to peer evaluation
  • Describe 2 strategies for conducting peer evaluations

Multigeneration Students: Strategies for Effective Teaching

Have you ever felt like your students are from another world? Do you hear a lot of complaints regarding your lecture activities that seem tedious to you but big to them? Do you have problems engaging and keeping students involved in the lecture material? Do you just feel like you need help understanding the students today? If so, this session is for you. We will highlight the differences in generations and challenges faced in dealing with students from different generations. Faculty need to develop a new set of skills in teaching to students from different generations. Learning about these and ways to overcome them can enhance your students’ learning outcomes.

Videostreaming and Archiving Lectures: Hip or Hype?

The debate of streaming or archiving course lectures is ongoing on many campuses. The campus community is made of a diverse set of individuals, all with a different perspective on the advantages and disadvantages of videotaping, video-streaming, and archiving lectures. In this presentation, we will discuss some of the key issues related to this topic, discuss how the College of Pharmacy has addressed these issues, and discuss the mechanisms we use in adopting a new technology to ensure that we meet the needs of our diverse population.
