Doctor of Pharmacy Program

The Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program provides educational training and experience in accord with standards and guidelines for Doctor of Pharmacy programs established by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and required of entry-level positions in all areas of contemporary pharmacy practice. Pharmacy graduates train for careers in all professional practice settings. Graduates may also choose from diverse opportunities in pharmaceutical industry, government, or education. Board-certified specialties are available in multiple areas, including pharmacotherapy, psychopharmacy, nutrition, oncology, and nuclear pharmacy.

Graduate Program

Graduate education is highly individualized with respect to both course work and research requirements. The student selects the area of study and a mentor to provide guidance during the period of study. The student and advisor choose an advisory committee to provide further scientific counsel and evaluation of the program of study. The advanced degree is awarded after completion of the approved individual program, which includes a thesis or dissertation based upon the student's research. This research will be original work of a quality that merits publication following critical peer review.

The College of Pharmacy offers students in the Doctor of Pharmacy program the opportunity to concurrently earn a graduate credit toward a Master of Science Degree. Admission to the dual degree program is competitive and is available only to students who have completed at least one year of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum.
