Joe Harmison is a second-generation pharmacist originally from Frederick, OK. He graduated from the OU College of Pharmacy in 1970. He currently serves as president of:

  • Harmison Pharmacies, an office and surgical center based practice specializing in pain management and ambulatory surgical center consulting;
  • The Dispensory Corporation, ambulatory surgical center pharmacies; and
  • DFW Prescriptions, Inc, an apothecary pharmacy.

Joe is an active member of the Texas Pharmacy Association (TPA) having served that organization as president in 1996-97. He currently serves as chairman of their Political Action Committee, and represented TPA in providing testimony before the United States House of Representatives as well as at the Aetna National Forum for Third Party Planning. He formerly served as chairman of the TPA Section of Independent Pharmacists, as well as a member of the Texas Pharmacy Practice Coalition and the Texas Pharmacy Congress.

As an active member of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), Joe is vice-chairman of the Steering Committee for National Government and Legislative Affairs, and on the Executive Committee of the NCPA National Political Action Committee. In 1996 he received their Pharmacy Leadership Award. Previously, he has served as vice-chairman for both the NCPA Steering Committees on Third Parties and on Management.

Joe has received the Merck Outstanding Achievement in Pharmacy Award and the Tarrant County Distinguished Service Award, both in 1996. Additionally, he currently serves as an alternate to the Medical Advisory Committee of the Texas Worker Compensation Commission and on the Alumni Affairs Board of the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy Alumni Association.

Joe is also active in the Tarrant County Pharmacy Association, the West Texas Pharmacy Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Apothecaries.
